Does Tango offer any monitoring functionality?

Tango is a workstation controller and can only control what the workstation offers. Tango has a monitoring control section as part of the ‘Expert’ section of the surface. For example Nuendo has a comprehensive monitoring section which is controlled by Tango. Logic does not but we have a very useable work around.

Does Tango work with PC and Mac?

Yes, Tango controls Logic and Final Cut pro on Mac and Nuendo/Cubase on both PC and Mac. It also controls Pyramix on PC and Protools on Mac or PC plus Vegas Pro and Desono on PC.

Why is it called Tango?

Well apart from the fact that we thought it sounded a good name for people to remember. In Latin, tango is the first person singular of the verb meaning to touch, so tango means ‘touch.’

Where do I put my workstation screen?

The virtual Touchscreen is set an angle of 30° and at the rear is only 9″ high. It therefore sits comfortably under a low shelf on which a monitor can stand.

Are The Extension Bays available?

Yes the 12 fader Extension Bays are available and shipping now, so Tango can be purchased in 8, 20, and 32 fader format.

How big is Tango?

What size is the touchscreen?

The display is a 22 inch 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen LCD. The display resolution is 1680 x 1050

What type of touchscreen is used?

A Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) touchscreen is used to maintain a crisp clear image on the display.

What is the power consumption?

In normal operation approx.75W, with a maximum less than 100W.

What DAWs does Tango support?

Currently Logic Pro, Nuendo 4, Cubase 4 and 5, Pyramix, Protools, Final Cut Pro.Vegas Pro and Desono as well as conforming to OSC protocol.

What communications protocol does it use?

Tango uses the individual Ethernet protocols provided by Nuendo/Cubase, Logic, and Pyramix, and uses HUI and Mackie protocols for Protools and Final Cut Pro.

How many faders does it have?

8 faders for the base unit and up to two 12 fader Extension units can be added.

How many EQs / compressors / etc are displayed?

Each of the 8 channels contains an EQ / compressor display with one control that follows the most recently used function. A detailed set of 16 touch sensitive controls are provided on the RHS of the display for the active (selected) channel.

Does Tango support 3rd party plug-ins?

Yes. Common plug-ins which are supported by Smart AV have advanced graphics such as EQ curves and Compression Graphs displayed for each of the 8 channels while any plugin will be controllable for the selected channel by the active screen controls on the RHS of the display. Enhanced plugin controls such as touch screen X-Y graphs are coming soon.

Does the monitor display the DAW screen?

No. The screen on Tango was developed by Smart AV to make the most efficient use of the space and maximize the number of functions that the user has access to. Different screens are provided for mixing / editing / keyboard / etc and others can be customized to suit individual preferences.

Where do I put my keyboard?

There is a virtual keyboard on the touch screen which can be used in place of a dedicated keyboard on the workstation computer. Of course you can still connect your keyboard to your workstation but it does not have to clutter your work space.

What type of construction is the console?

The console is of solid construction using powder coated sheet steel with aluminium end panels and knobs. Top surfaces are laminated with rear printed anti-glare polyester for durability and a comfortable warm feel.

How easy is it to fit Tango in to furniture?

Easy. There are threaded holes in each side panel of the console to facilitate furniture mounting. (see manual).

What is the spacing between the Faders?

The spacing between faders is 38.4mm consistent with the spacing used on all high end professional consoles.

What does SASSI mean?

SASSI is the graphical console software running on Tango. SASSI is an acronym for Smart And Sexy Screen Interface
